Data Used to Calculate EMU

The SS to EMU tool uses several types of data to test the quality of FP service statistics and calculate estimated modern use, including population estimates, survey data and service statistics. While some data is preloaded into the SS to EMU tool as default data, it is important to understand where the data are coming from and what adjustments you can make to them to calculate the most accurate estimates for your country and context.

Review the presentation to learn about all the data inputs used in the SS to EMU, including what each type of data can tell you and how they contribute to EMU, indicators that fall within each data type, and the source for data included in SS to EMU.

  • Population Data
  • Survey Based Data
  • Modeled Estimates of Modern Contraceptive Prevalence (mCPR)
  • Couple Years of Protection (CYP) Factors
  • Family Planning Service Statistics

Once you complete this section, move on to dig deeper into the data adjustments required to transform raw data into EMU.
